The international consortium ENROPE / Langscape invites you to the Autumn School for early career researchers in the field of multilingualism and multiculturalism at the University of Siegen from September 7 to 11, 2026. ENROPE and Langscape integrate research in the broad field of multilingualism and multiculturalism
-as a linguistic, social, identity-related and discursive tool,
- in locally and globally differing educational institutions and
- as an object and medium of research.
Master's students, doctoral candidates and post-docs are invited to contribute their research projects in the field of multilingual-multicultural education in all its thematic and methodological diversity.
What you can expect
A short video conference will be offered in advance (September 2, 2026) for information and to get to know each other. In addition to keynote speeches and workshops, the Autumn School offers the opportunity todiscuss the status of your own research with international peers and mentors in a protected environmentinsmall working groups
.
The starting point for the joint discussions on educational theory and research methodology is the phenomenon of complex linguistic-cultural and social positioning of individuals in times of high diversity and social multi-crises, which not least lead to symbolic struggles of interpretation and material distribution. For the modeling of multilingual-multicultural educational processes, this means designing educational structures and educational offers in participatory design processes of actors with different linguistic-cultural and pedagogical expertise. At the level of research into the dynamic discourses of multilingual-multicultural societies, the question arises as to whether and in what form research designs need to be rethought. This can go hand in hand with the goal of developing transformational competencies in the sense of Critical Global Citizenship among teachers, learners and researchers, as well as positive visions of the future.
While the focus should be on individual research projects, overarching topics for joint discussions can be the following :
-Issues of developing discursive transformational competences and positive, inclusive visions of the future in multilingual-multicultural societies
- Modeling multilingual-multicultural educational processes
- Issues of identity and empowerment of teachers, learners and researchers
- Ethical reflection of research approaches in terms of language choice, multimodality, participation, cooperation, co-construction of knowledge and social impact.
