Welcome to the Didactics of Physics!

Learning to teach physics - concrete and practical

For us, physics didactics means more than theory: we focus on how physics content actually reaches the classroom. Our working group at the University of Siegen develops concrete methods, experiments and practical approaches to convey even complex physical phenomena in an understandable way.

We train teachers for all types of schools, from elementary school to grammar school. In doing so, we combine sound specialist knowledge with directly applicable didactic skills.

Our research flows directly into teacher training. Current findings enrich future teaching and help to inspire pupils for physics.

Those who study with us are optimally prepared for what counts in everyday school life: the challenge of making physics fascinating and understandable.

Successful premiere: trainee nursery school teachers from the vocational high school spend a day with a primary school class in the zdi student laboratory

For the first time, a student laboratory for a fourth primary school class entitled "Let's explore the climate" was planned by BK AHS students at the University of Siegen. Over the course of several months, budding educators developed ideas for age-appropriate implementation, concretized plans and showed great talent in creative design. Dr. Andree Georg from the Geography and Physics Didactics Department provided advice and support, resulting in four research stations at which the 4b of Hammerhütter Primary School collected stickers for their researcher cards with each investigation on 18 February 2026. The premiere expands the range of activities offered by the school laboratory and strengthens the collaboration with the AHS Siegen vocational college. As a result, the school lab now offers prospective educators the opportunity to gain experience at the University of Siegen in addition to the existing courses. (AG,SH)
