Historical Seminar
We research and teach the history of the 20th/21st century - the period that immediately precedes and decisively shapes our own present. Our research deals with societies, events, processes and structures in a dynamic period characterized by profound upheavals, embedded in longer historical lines. Our methodological focus is on social, cultural and everyday history, combined with approaches from the history of politics and the history of knowledge. Our regional focus is on German societies of the 20th/21st century and the European-transatlantic cultural area. As a history of the present, research and communication to the wider public go hand in hand for us.
