Faculty I: Applying for recognition

Whether you are changing universities, changing degree programs or spending a semester abroad, you can apply to have coursework and examinations completed in other degree programs and/or at other universities recognized for your degree program, provided they are equivalent.

Equivalence is determined if the coursework and examinations are essentially equivalent in content, scope and requirements to those of the respective degree program at the University of Siegen. This is not a schematic comparison, but an overall assessment.

1

Application

You fill out one application per subject. If you have credits for the Studium Generale, recognition is applied for via the core subject.

2

Specialist representation

Forward your documents to the relevant subject representation. A recommendation for recognition will be issued here and forwarded to the Examination Office.

3

Audit committee

The Examination Office usually forwards the application to the Chair of the Examination Board. Your application will be checked again here.

4

Recognition

Your application will be returned to the Examinations Office. Your achievements will be recorded in your student file according to the recommendations from the subject.

Semester abroad

The recognition of credits earned abroad is based on a learning agreement drawn up before departure, in which the courses to be completed abroad are recorded.

After your semester abroad, you must submit an application for recognition of the credits earned abroad (including any voluntary additional credits). To do this, submit the application and your transcript of records from abroad to the subject representative.

The phil: Examination Office will record the recognized achievements based on the recommendations of the subject representatives. Achievements from abroad that are not recognized in the curriculum are recorded as voluntary additional achievements.

Required documents

  • Application for recognition
  • Learning Agreement, if applicable
  • Transcript of Records from abroad
  • Current transcript of records

Change of subject/model within the University of Siegen

If you have changed subject and/or model within the University of Siegen, please complete the application for recognition in full and send it together with a current transcript of records to the relevant subject representative. A separate application must be submitted for each subject or degree program; recognition for the Studium Generale is granted via the core subject.

If applicable, the Examinations Office will send you the certificate of placement in a higher semester by email and will record your achievements as soon as you have been transferred.

For example, you have completed credits in a teacher training course and these cannot be recognized for your degree course? Please contact us. It may be possible to have the credits recognized in the Studium Generale.

Required documents

  • Application for recognition
  • Application for placement in a higher semester, if applicable
  • Current transcript of records

Change of university

If you change universities, please submit the application for recognition (and, if applicable, the application for placement in a higher semester) as well as a certified copy of your transcript of records together with a clearance certificate from your previous university confirming your entitlement to examinations in your degree program.

Based on the recommendation of the subject representatives, the Examination Office will record the credits you have already achieved.

Did you study something completely different before? Feel free to contact us. If necessary, credits for the Studium Generale can be recognized.

Required documents

  • Application for recognition
  • Application for placement in a higher semester, if applicable
  • Certified copy of transcript of records
  • Clearance certificate from the previous university
