The teacher training course consists of a 6-semester Bachelor's degree and a 4-semester Master's degree - regardless of the teaching profession chosen. The University of Siegen offers an undergraduate teacher training course, i.e. subject-specific studies are closely interlinked with subject-specific didactic and educational science content from the beginning of the Bachelor's course. In addition to the subject-specific didactics relevant to subject teaching, the requirements of subject teaching can be better met through subject teaching didactics. At the University of Siegen, a further qualification in the field of special educational support is possible for the teaching profession at elementary school with a 2-semester postgraduate course.

Since the winter semester 2023/24, I have been studying to become an elementary school teacher with integrated special education at the University of Siegen. The degree program consists of basic mathematics education, basic language education, a third subject of your choice and educational science with integrated special needs education. I chose subject teaching as my third subject because I was already enthusiastic about it during my own time at primary school and I find the diverse content both during my studies and its later implementation in the classroom very exciting. The University of Siegen offers the special opportunity to acquire two double-qualifying Master's degrees.
After the Bachelor's and Master's degree courses have already established links to the specialisms of "Emotional and Social Development" and "Learning", these can then be further deepened (optionally) in the two-semester postgraduate Master's degree "Teaching Qualification for Special Educational Support". You also have the opportunity to expand your profile with an additional certificate program in Sport Education and Training or Gender Studies.
A special place at the University of Siegen are the many subject-specific and interdisciplinary learning workshops. There you will not only find a place to study, but also contact persons who can help you with any questions you may have about your studies. During the lecture period, there are always events to make new contacts. The offer is supplemented by excursions, lectures and workshops to look beyond the boundaries of teacher training. Thanks to the manageable size of the university, the small seminar sizes and the good support from the lecturers, you are sure to settle in quickly in Siegen.

- Aptitude and orientation internship in the Bachelor's degree program

At the University of Siegen it is possible to acquire two fully-fledged (i.e. double-qualifying) Master's degrees:

Building on a 10-semester degree course in elementary school teaching with integrated special needs education (6 semesters Bachelor's and 4 semesters Master's), in which students already study a proportion of courses with content related to the special needs areas of "Emotional and Social Development" and "Learning", the subsequent 2-semester Master's in "Teaching Qualification for Special Needs Education" enables students to additionally acquire a teaching qualification for special needs education with the special needs areas of "Learning" and "Emotional and Social Development". An important goal of this degree course is the intensive preparation of prospective teachers for dealing with pupils with behavioral problems and learning disabilities in inclusive learning groups and at special schools.
