Activate your ZIMT account
On this page, you'll learn how to activate your ZIMT account or change your ZIMT password via unisono.
What is a ZIMT account?
When you enroll at the University of Siegen, you will be provided with a ZIMT account in addition to your access to unisono. It consists of a user ID (a so-called “g-number”) and a password that you set yourself.
Your ZIMT account gives you access to various ZIMT services, such as:
- university email account
- free Wi-Fi on campus via eduroam
- VPN
- Moodle learning management system
You can find all ZIMT services for students at https://www.uni-siegen.de/zimt/studienanfaenger.
Note: Do not confuse your ZIMT account with your unisono account. You canuse unisono to register for courses or exams.
Another note: It is absolutely essential to activate your ZIMT account and university email account, as official emails from the university (e.g., from the Student Affairs Office, the Registrar’s Office, or your instructors, etc.) are sent exclusively to your student email address.
Activate Your ZIMT Account and Change Your Password
Even though the two systems are independent of each other, you must first activate your ZIMT account through unisono:
- To activate your ZIMT account, log in to unisono (see link below).
(You can access your unisono account using your matriculation number and a password you’ve set.) - Then, in the“Service” menu, select “ Personal Settings ,” then“Login and Security,” and finally “ZIMT Account.”
- Click the link to be redirected to the page where you can activate your account.
You can also use this method to change your password if you’ve forgotten it. - After successful registration, you’ll be redirected to a page displaying your username and email address. Make sure to memorize these or write them down, as your username is required to log in to all ZIMT services.
Licenses
As a student, you can use the IDABUS Account Management System to request software licenses—such as Microsoft Office, Adobe Express, or Webex—free of charge:
Additional Services - University Library and Cloud Storage
The login credentials for your ZIMT account are also required to access the University Library’s catalogs.
Note: Although you log in using your ZIMT account credentials, the library account is managed by the University Library and is not the same as the ZIMT account. The ZIMT account is used here solely for authentication purposes.
Furthermore, you can use your ZIMT account to request access to the sciebo university cloud and receive 30 GB of free storage space.
