WLAN
The ZIMT operates the university's WLAN infrastructure. Various SSIDs are broadcast, where eduroam is the most relevant for the majority of users. It can be used for WLAN access by members of the university and various other participating institutes. There are also the tagung SSID and several institute networks.
eduroam
eduroam is short for "Education Roaming". It is a world-wide WLAN network for universities, research and other educational institutes. Access is granted to members of the University of Siegen and of other participating organizations.
Network tagung
The purpose of this network is to provide temporary WLAN access to guests, who cannot access eduroam. If you are the organizer of an event and would like to request access to the tagungsnetz for your participants, please contact the support desk.
Institute networks
An institute network can be used to get devices via WLAN into the same network (VLAN) as devices that are connected to sockets (see Inner university network (LAN)). This can be useful if devices cannot be connected via LAN directly and that cannot access alternative WLAN networks. A person responsible for a VLAN can request an institute network via the support desk. Please state the desired VLAN in this case. You will also be able to grant access to individual users.
