Costs
The Psychotherapeutic Outpatient Clinic of the University of Siegen is authorized to bill the statutory health insurance companies and other cost bearers for the services provided. However, there are differences depending on whether you have statutory or private health insurance. As a rule, the scope and services are significantly higher for people with statutory health insurance than for people with private insurance.
Psychotherapy is covered by statutory health insurance. This means that the costs of psychotherapeutic consultations and trial sessions are always covered by your statutory health insurance. The costs of psychotherapy following the trial sessions are only covered by statutory health insurance after an application has been submitted.
You do not need a referral. You can come directly to the psychotherapeutic consultation hours of the Psychotherapeutic University Outpatient Clinic with your health insurance card.
The statutory health insurance will cover all the costs of the consultations, trial sessions and psychotherapy (provided the application has been approved) in full, so that you do not have to make any additional payment. An exception to this is if you do not keep previously agreed appointments and therefore have to pay a cancellation fee. As a rule, you will have to pay any cancellation fees yourself. Another exception could be if you require certain extra services that are not covered by statutory health insurance, such as the writing of a complex report or certain certificates. However, you will always be informed of these possible costs in advance and they are based on the scale of fees for doctors and psychotherapists (GOÄ/GOP). In accordance with the consumer advice center, the Psychotherapeutic University Outpatient Clinic of the University of Siegen considers so-called self-payer services ("IGeL services") to be unnecessary in the context of psychotherapy. As a rule, we will therefore not offer IGeL services unless you explicitly request them.
Unfortunately, private health insurance benefits are not uniformly regulated. If you are privately insured, you must therefore unfortunately check exactly what is in your contract. Some private health insurance companies generally restrict the benefits for mental illnesses or only pay for a limited number of hours.
For persons entitled to benefits (usually civil servants), the benefits cover part of the costs for treatment by psychotherapists. As a rule, insured persons must submit an application in advance. We recommend that you ask your private health insurance company and subsidy office in advance to what extent they will cover these services and whether they can provide you with the relevant documents for applying for psychotherapy. In this way, we can take this into account directly during diagnosis and treatment planning. In any case, it is advisable to bring the documents directly to the initial consultation or second appointment if possible.
If you have private insurance and/or are entitled to financial aid or would like to pay for the services yourself, the Psychotherapeutic University Outpatient Clinic will issue you with a treatment invoice via a private medical agency, which you can then submit to your private health insurance company or financial aid provider for reimbursement. Irrespective of reimbursement by third parties (e.g. private health insurance or state aid), you as the invoice recipient are responsible for timely payment. These private services are billed on the basis of the scale of fees for psychotherapists (GOP).
