Teaching History of Architecture
The Department of Architectural History deals with the built environment in its entire spectrum from a historical perspective, i.e. buildings of various functions and periods of origin, as well as ensembles and urban structures. In addition to built examples, this also includes planning and the underlying concepts and theories. The focus is on European architecture, including its international dissemination. In line with the historical focus, the socio-political contexts that determine not only the emergence but also the further appreciation and thus the handling of built architecture are illuminated. The changes to buildings and urban structures over the course of history and the underlying changes in meaning and function are therefore also of interest. Accordingly, the history and theory of monument preservation form central areas of the architectural history dealt with here, supplemented by historical building research to determine the construction history of specific buildings.
