Welcome to the website of the Chair of Developmental Psychology and Clinical Psychology of the Lifespan!

Developmental psychology is concerned with describing and explaining the chronological, successive changes in human experience and behavior over the entire lifespan. The lifespan approach therefore encompasses the developmental processes in childhood and adolescence as well as in middle and old adulthood. Important functional areas in which developmental processes are researched are cognitive (perception, thinking, memory, language), emotional, motivational and social functions.

When parents don't become grandparents
The University of Siegen has published a study on encephalopathy. How restrictive is it, and what helps those affected to accept that they are not grandmas and grandpas?

About our working group

What we are about

Hörsaalcentrum Campus Unteres Schloss

Our research encompasses both basic and application-oriented questions. We are primarily concerned with developmental processes and interventions in the areas of self-regulation and reminiscence.

Our research profile

In our research, we are primarily concerned with two topics: Self-regulation and reminiscence.

We look at both from a life-span approach and from both a basic and an applied focus. Some of our projects are located at the intersection between lifespan psychology (including gerontopsychology) and clinical psychology, for example when it comes to the role of self-regulation for cognitive and affective health or interventions to use reminiscence processes to increase well-being.

Main research areas

  • Basic psychological research in childhood and adolescence
  • Basic research in life-span psychology
  • Applied research in lifespan psychology
  • Interdisciplinary ageing research (in the context of the Gerontology Network Siegen, GeNeSi)
