When parents don't become grandparents
The University of Siegen has published a study on encephalopathy. How restrictive is it, and what helps those affected to accept that they are not grandmas and grandpas?

Encephalopathy and possible consequences for those affected

In this study, Pia Arens wants to find out what enkellosness means for people who are parents themselves but whose children cannot have children of their own.

What is it about?

As a result of demographic change and the declining birth rate in Germany, more and more parents are waiting in vain to become grandparents.

Psychological research has only recently begun to look at the effects caused by the absence of a longed-for event. However, while the consequences of involuntary childlessness have already been intensively researched, the topic of childlessness and its effects on the lives of those affected has been little studied to date.

In order to make this important topic more visible, we would like to find out how you feel about not being a "grandma" or "grandpa" in a personal conversation with those affected.
