Volume 1: Historicity in the architecture of modernism

Eva v. Engelberg-Dočkal and Petra Lohmann (eds.)
Siegen 2022

The volume "Geschichtlichkeit in der Architektur der Moderne" marks the start of the new publication series "Frieder & Henner", founded by the Department of Architectural History and the Department of Architectural Theory and Philosophy at the University of Siegen. The interdisciplinary series refers in its title to the local and regional localization, but addresses the entire spectrum of content and time of the teaching areas. The present volume 1 is primarily composed of contributions from the symposium of the Master's degree program in Architecture in 2021, which was conceived by both departments and held as a digital event. The texts offer different approaches to the topic of "Historicity in Modernist Architecture": from the perspective of architectural practice by Paul Böhm (Cologne) and Mieke Bosse and Peter Drijver (The Hague) and architectural theory and history by Tom Schoper (Dresden) and Ole W. Fischer (Biberach). The contributions are introduced by a philosophical reflection by Petra Lohmann and an architectural-historical perspective by Eva v. Engelberg-Dočkal as editors of this conference volume. The volume is available in print and in digital form.
