Volume 3: Old school Dahlbruch

This volume focuses on the schoolhouse in Dahlbruch (Hilchenbach, Siegerland), which was built in 1872 and still exists today. The current vacancy of the building, where generations of pupils learned to read and write, prompted the local history association DaHeim e.V. and the Department of Architectural History at the University of Siegen to look for new uses.

Students from the Department of Architecture provided suggestions and Isabell Eberling, a research assistant at the department, researched the construction history of the building, which has been extended several times.
An exhibition of the works revealed the strong emotional connection between the people of Dahlbruch and their former school. It is a prime example of a historic building in a rural area which, although not one of the outstanding works of architectural history, has shaped the history and image of the village for generations and is therefore a valuable legacy.
