For the OMNI Cluster

The cluster is managed by the ZIMT HPC team.

If you can't find the answers to your questions on the website, feel free to contact us by email or stop by during our office hours. We're here to help with questions and issues regarding usage, as well as with software installation and optimization.

If you’re having trouble using the cluster, it’s best to send us an email. If a job didn’t run successfully, please attach the following files:

The job script that caused the error. The job script is the script you submitted to the queues using ` sbatch`.
The Slurm log file for the job that failed. By default , Slurm log files are named slurm-.out.

When you send your email to this address, a support ticket will be generated in the ZIMT ticket system.

Registration

We offer weekly drop-in office hours on the topic of scientific computing.

To ensure better organization for everyone involved, we ask that you register shortly before the consultation session begins. All you need to do is enter your name and email address here. If no one registers by the specified time, the consultation session will not take place on that day.

The consultation session is open to all students and staff who deal with scientific computing as part of their work or studies, regardless of their level of experience or whether they have used ZIMT systems before.

We provide consulting services on the following topics, among others:

Networking and Knowledge Transfer
Questions about cluster usage
Troubleshooting and problem resolution
Implementing scientific computations
- Assistance in selecting a suitable programming language or software
- Selection of suitable hardware/systems from the data center
- Installing and using software
Efficient use of deployed systems and software
Optimization of workflows (e.g., job management and data processing)
Performance analysis and optimization of your own applications
Submitting requests for computing time on larger systems (Tier 2/Tier 1)

In-House Training

ZIMT organizes a series of training sessions on scientific computing and HPC. The most important training session is the introductory cluster course, which everyone who uses the cluster should attend at least once. This course is held at least once each semester, alternating between German and English. The slides are always in English and are available for download for past training sessions.

with DH.NRW

The University of Siegen is also a member of HPC.NRW, the North Rhine-Westphalia Competence Network for High-Performance Computing. The network serves as a knowledgeable and thematically diverse point of contact and advisory service for HPC users in North Rhine-Westphalia. To ensure basic service coverage for locations without Tier-3 centers and for universities of applied sciences, the Tier-2 centers provide uniform, structured access for HPC users at all higher education institutions in North Rhine-Westphalia.

As part of HPC.NRW, a network of thematic clusters is being created to provide low-threshold training, advisory, and coaching services. The goal is to use high-performance computing and storage systems effectively and efficiently, as well as to support recent graduates and postdoctoral researchers. The existing resources and services in the state are also presented transparently.
