Requirements
Since so-called research or summer internships cannot be unpaid, the International Office (IO) and the Human Resources department have developed a legally compliant process for traineeships under the following conditions:
| Intended Length of Stay | Traineeship possible | Enrollment required |
| Up to 12 weeks (90 days) | Yes | No |
| 6 months (e.g. Erasmus) corresponds to one semester (max. 2 semesters) |
Yes | Yes |

Please note that doctoral candidates cannot be accepted as visiting students. Research stays by doctoral candidates at the University of Siegen must run through a proper legal framework (i.e. employment at the University of Siegen or scholarship).
Procedure and timeline:
Please allow sufficient time for preparation. Please note the following deadlines for registration with the International Office:
• At least 4 weeks before the planned stay, for stays of up to a maximum of 12 weeks/90 days.
• At least 6 months before the planned stay, if international students are to be enrolled for one to a maximum of two semesters.
