Construction work on the Sieg line: rail replacement service from August 22

Tobias Treude

The railroad line between the Rhineland and the Siegerland will be modernized in the coming weeks. Deutsche Bahn is renewing and inspecting bridges, tunnels, points and platforms on the Sieg line between Troisdorf and Siegen. For commuters to the University of Siegen, this means replacement services and adjusted timetables. Here is the most important information.

Restrictions from August 22 to September 12

The construction work is scheduled for the period from Friday, August 22, 9 pm to Friday, September 12, 9 pm. There will be restrictions on local and long-distance services. Anyone traveling by train during this time should check the current connections before departure (see related links). A rail replacement service will be set up, including an hourly express bus service from Cologne to Siegen.

Local transport

The RE 9, RB 90, RB 93 and S-Bahn S 12 and S 19 lines will not be running between Cologne Central Station or Troisdorf and Siegen during the entire construction period. Instead, the railroad will be using buses as rail replacement services, which may take considerably longer depending on the connection. From September 9 to 12, there will also be restrictions on the RE 8 and RB 27 lines.

Long-distance services

Between August 22 and September 6, all IC connections on the Dortmund/Münster - Siegen - Frankfurt am Main line will be canceled. From September 7, trains will run again on the entire route, but will not stop in Siegen; the Frankfurt West stop will also be canceled until September 15.
