Interview on BauNetz CAMPUS: Siegen’s New School of Architecture Discusses the Future of Architecture Education

Through the New School of Architecture in Siegen, the Department of Architecture at the University of Siegen is currently not only developing a new location in the former printing plant of the Siegener Zeitung, but is also examining fundamental questions regarding architectural education. How must degree programs, curricula, and teaching formats adapt to social, environmental, and professional changes? An interview with Prof. Jan Kampshoff and Dr. Hannah Schiefer, published today on BauNetz CAMPUS, addresses these questions.

New School of Architecture in Siegen Discusses the Future of Architecture Education

In the interview, they explain why the department’s transformation extends far beyond the physical conversion of the printing plant. At the heart of this is the conviction that, as the challenges of building change, so too does the self-understanding of architectural education. It is not individual modules, but the structure of the curriculum itself that becomes the subject of joint discussions.

The interview also marks the kickoff of the “Future Curricula Circuit Training” Summer School, which will take place from September 9 to 15, 2026, at the Neue Architekturschule Siegen. There, faculty, students, and national and international guests will work together to develop new perspectives on architectural education, professional roles, institutional development, and forms of collaboration. The Summer School views the curriculum as an open process of negotiation and combines workshops, lectures, discussions, and experimental teaching formats.

BauNetz CAMPUS has been covering the process since the very first Summer Schools and will also provide journalistic coverage of this year’s edition.
