Introduction to feminist economics: work, time use and poverty measurement
This course offers an introduction to central topics and issues in feminist economics. The focus here is on the definition of work and the forms of unpaid (care) work that often remain invisible in economic analyses. Building on this, the importance of time use for social inequality is addressed. Time is a central but often overlooked resource in the measurement of living standards. The lecture introduces basic concepts of income and time poverty measurement and discusses the methodological challenges involved.
The course is offered by Dr. Franziska Dorn, research associate at the Institute for Socioeconomics at the University of Duisburg-Essen, and is part of the lecture Introduction to Plural Economics. It will take place on 28.01.2026 at 8:30 a.m. in room US-D 109 at the Unteres Schloss campus.
