Siegen Night of Music: "Between the Lines"

The "Music at 12" format became "Music at 8 p.m." on November 15. The reason for this was the University of Siegen's participation in the "Siegen Night of Music" program. In the foyer of the Unteres Schloss lecture hall center, there was jazz at its finest. At her debut concert in Siegen, jazz and pop singer Stephanie Neigel presented self-composed and existing works together with jazz guitarist Hanno Busch. The new lecturer for jazz, rock and pop knew how to inspire her audience in the twilight.

Due to the limited number of people in the foyer, tickets were issued at the entrance door. In the meantime, a long queue formed to gradually gain admission to the concert venue.

Stephanie Neigel mainly sang songs from her album "Phallée & Baldu - Zwischen den Zeilen". Her lyrics often arise from everyday experiences, such as a sleepless night "in which every noise (the cat meowing, the clock ticking, the sound of a passing motorcycle) keeps you from falling asleep". The song title is "Dance with the devil". The songs, which range from songwriter ballads to almost exotically tempered uptempo and sometimes even jazz, Neigel says she "didn't plan them in detail. I wanted to try out different things, to move away from a conventional line-up."

Stephanie Neigel and Hanno Busch were sent off into the late evening with thunderous applause and, of course, only one encore.

Rethinking campus life: creating space for encounters

The festival, organized by the Schools of Media and Cultural Studies, offered a platform for creative minds and academic exchange. In lectures such as "Media as a mirror of society", the social and cultural influences of film, television and digital formats were highlighted. The interactive workshops enabled participants to become active themselves - from short film productions to creative photography. "Our aim is to view media not just as a consumer good, but as a tool for building social bridges," emphasized Prof. Dr. Katharina Müller, who chaired the event.

Campus life rethought

In addition to the academic program, the festival was a lively meeting place on campus. The canteen was transformed into a market of opportunities where local initiatives from the fields of social affairs, culture and sustainability presented their projects. Musical acts by student bands and an open-air movie screening rounded off the experience. Particular emphasis was placed on the commitment of the participants, who described the event as "a unique opportunity to gain new perspectives and make new contacts". The university plans to establish the festival as an integral part of campus life in the future.
