Prof. Dr. Ruben A. Bühner

The theologian deals with the New Testament. In doing so, he spans the arc into the 21st century: Where are the historical roots of anti-Semitic statements and how can education that is critical of anti-Semitism succeed in schools?

My professorship is called:
Exegesis and Theology of the New Testament (Faculty I)

This is what my research is about:
The subject area of the New Testament deals with the beginnings of the Christian faith. The focus is on the written and documentary evidence of the earliest followers of Jesus in their historical contexts and in particular their relationship to ancient Judaism. Methodologically, it combines historical, philological and papyrological approaches as well as methods of literary studies, archaeology, hermeneutics and much more.

This is what particularly fascinates me about my field of research:
Texts and ideas that have significantly shaped and continue to shape our culture! Bringing these into conversation with current challenges is not only necessary in order to understand and adequately address current phenomena. It also trains our own critical thinking through productive alienation.

That's why I came to the University of Siegen:
The University of Siegen combines motivated students, a well-positioned administration and, in theology, a great faculty with exciting and forward-looking research projects. I am delighted to be a part of this!

My most interesting positions before were:
Chair replacements in Wuppertal and Munich; teaching and research projects in Bonn, Würzburg and beautiful Zurich

Students learn in my courses, for example:
In a seminar on anti-Judaism in the New Testament this semester, we analyze where the historical roots of anti-Jewish statements lie, how contemporary anti-Semitism is connected to them and ask how anti-Semitism-critical education can succeed in schools.

In my free time, I like to:
Explore the mountains on my mountain bike or play basketball with my children.
