As part of the first digital agenda for Baden-Württemberg (digital@bw 2018/19), the project "Virtual reconstruction of cultural properties" was set up under the heading "Cultural properties 4.0". The aim is to digitally reconstruct selected representations of seven buildings that have not been preserved in their original state. The results will be made available in a freely accessible database and integrated into visitor information.

Promotion Isabell Eberling

The Department of Architectural History at the University of Siegen is providing the scientific basis for the virtual reconstruction of the historicist Wilhelma Palace complex (1842-64) in Stuttgart, which was partially destroyed during the Second World War. The special feature of the pleasure palace of Wilhelm I of Württemberg lies in the building type of a multi-part complex integrated into a garden, in the design of an early orientalizing ensemble in the European context and in the use of innovative construction technology (prefabricated castings). The structurally modified complex now serves as a zoological and botanical garden.

The digital reconstruction is preceded by extensive architectural and art-historical research, which compiles and scientifically evaluates all available information about the palace ensemble. Concepts for the digital reconstruction will be developed on this basis. A research assistant position was set up from project funds and filled by Ms. Isabell Eberling, M.Sc.
