Student Voices: Insights into the Dual Study Program in Computer Science
Close integration of theory and practice.
The opportunity to pursue a dual study program in Computer Science at the University of Siegen was what motivated me to stay in the region and complete my degree in partnership with a local company. From the first semesters, the close integration of theory and practice created valuable synergies that continued throughout my studies and greatly enriched my experience. I particularly appreciated being able to complete practice-oriented modules at the company and, in consultation with my employer, tailor them to my own interests. The specialization track also gave me the flexibility either to focus early within the bachelor’s program or to maintain a broader perspective. Arranging a topic for my bachelor’s thesis between the department and the company worked smoothly and helped me complete my degree successfully. Building on this strong foundation, I was able to start my career with ease and continue to benefit greatly from the expertise I gained in both academic and professional settings. I'm impressed with the new format for the program and would certainly choose the dual study program in computer science at the University of Siegen again today.
You can find a sample employment contract and additional information about dual study programs on the Siegen Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) website: www.ihk-siegen.de (under the “Dual Study Programs” section). You can find companies in the region and beyond that offer or have previously offered dual study programs on the following page: ausbildungsmesse57.de
Prospective students interested in a dual study program can also independently search for companies that are not listed on the website. A sponsorship agreement (study grant) and an employment contract for study support are concluded between the company and the prospective students. In addition, a cooperation agreement between the participating company and the university is required. You can find the template for this agreement here. The cooperation agreement must be printed in triplicate, signed by the student and the company, and sent to the following address for signature by the Chancellor of the University of Siegen:
