The Siegen University Library regularly offers apprenticeships. The requirement is a technical secondary school entrance qualification, a technical college entrance qualification or a general university entrance qualification. The apprenticeship lasts three years; the practical part takes place in the university library, the theoretical part at the vocational college in Dortmund. In North Rhine-Westphalia, you can apply for the Bachelor's degree courses in "Library and Digital Communication" and "Data and Information Science" at the TH Köln with a general higher education entrance qualification or entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences. Admission requirement is a four-week internship, the fifth semester includes the internship module.

In North Rhine-Westphalia, the TH Köln offers this part-time continuing education course "Library and Information Science (Master in Library and Information Science - MALIS)" over four semesters. Admission requires a degree in any subject and a twelve-month practical phase in a library or information science institution. This internship can also be completed at Siegen University Library.

Students at the University of Siegen can get to know the tasks and activities in a university library as part of a two-week compulsory internship. One focus of the internship is on subject librarianship, the classic area of responsibility for academically trained librarians.

The University Library employs student assistants at all library locations to strengthen its staff.
The tasks include in particular the booking of media as well as filing and shelving work.
The working hours are adapted to the opening hours of the University Library.
