As an author:
What is ORCID? (Open Researcher and Contributor ID)
ORCID is a registry of unique, persistent IDs for researchers that is open, non-profit, transparent, portable and research-oriented. ORCID provides you with a permanent digital ID that distinguishes you from all other researchers and helps you to automatically link your professional activities.
As an author, you register for an ORCID.Instructions and notes from Siegen University Library

Your publication:
What is a DOI? (Digital Object Identifier)
In the digital environment, documents need to be stable, datable, citable, findable and must remain unchanged. The DOI is a unique and permanent identifier for digital publications. It identifies the publication and not the location where the article/document is currently located. To enable access to identified objects, the International DOI Foundation (IDF), as the operator, provides a system that assigns the current location(s) of the document to the DOI.
All universi publications receive both a DOI and a URN (Uniform Resource Name) and a persistent URL.Information on copyright and citation law
Copyright issues arise in connection with the reproduction of images, photographs (digital and/or print) etc. in publications.
Below we have compiled some links that provide basic information on this:
Urheberrecht in Wissenschaft und Forschung (Legal Office of the University of Siegen, here especially the FAQ)
Urheberrecht in der Wissenschaft. Ein Überblick für Forschung, Lehre und Bibliotheken (Brochure of the BMBF and the German Library Association/DBV)

- universi works with the aim of making academic publications from the University of Siegen available to the public as freely as possible and also to enable high-quality publications that are difficult to publish on a commercial publishing market.
The aim is parallel publication online via the publication server OPUS), the institutional repository of the University Library, and print (minimum print run/print on demand). As a rule, Open Access publication is carried out using Creative Commons licenses (CC BY SA), as these support the free use and reuse of academic publications, for example through scientific search engines, specialist databases, etc.
This so-called hybrid publishing has great advantages for authors:
You benefit from the citable and clearly identifiable, permanent and worldwide accessibility on the Internet without having to forego the user-friendly reading version in the form of a printed book. - As an author/publisher, you contractually grant universi the so-called non-exclusive right of use for both the print version and the electronic version for publication and long-term archiving on OPUS. At the same time, you can archive and make this version available on your own or other institutional servers at any time (citing the first publication).

- VG Wort
As an author or publisher, please contact VG Wort directly to apply for royalty payments for your publications. To do so, you must register as a beneficiary.
Berlin UP has formulated a handout on questions of compatibility between the VG Wort agreement and Open Access reuse licenses (CC licenses).
Although distributions are made via METIS for OA publications, OPUS (the repository of Siegen University Library and publication platform ofuniversi) is not connected to the counting procedure (via VG Wort).
The university finances the basic operation of universi. A prerequisite for inclusion in the universi program is usually basic funding from the academics', institutes' or others' own resources. This primarily concerns printing and production costs. A publishing fee, which includes the universi service, is charged depending on the project. The online versions and the online publication are free of charge. Pre-financing and risk assumption of parts of the printing costs - even for titles that are only expected to generate low sales revenue - is possible in individual cases.

About us
As part of the University Library / "Publish Research", we publish high-quality academic publications by members of the University of Siegen in order to make the university's performance visible worldwide, independent of commercial exploitation pressure.
- With its own publishing house, the University of Siegen offers its academics and members flexible publication infrastructure - both digital/online and in high-quality print. Supplemented by a comprehensive range of consulting services, universi provides contemporary support in making academic publications visible, accessible, and discoverable worldwide.
- As a university publisher, universi is not profit-oriented and therefore does not compete with commercial publishers. universi does not acquire on the market, but is responsible for publication requests from the University of Siegen and thus serves to optimize the visibility, dissemination and reception of its scientific and other publications.
- universi is a small publisher and therefore requires a correspondingly greater commitment from its authors. For the reading, teaching and researching public, it aims to offer a small but intensive forum for discussion.

An Academic Advisory Board, consisting of academics from the University of Siegen, accompanies and steers the strategic and programmatic orientation of universi as a publication and service offering. The framework conditions for a science-friendly contract design, the design of Open Access and the definition of quality requirements are just as much a subject of consultation as the development of transparency criteria and procedures for the acceptance or rejection of publication requests or series foundations. As a direct link, the Advisory Board facilitates networking on the requirements that researchers and teaching staff in Siegen have of the university's own publication infrastructure.
