Welcome to the Chair of Steel Construction and Composite Steel Construction
The professorship combines research and teaching in three working groups, which together cover a wide range of topics:
- Steel construction, steel composite construction and building informatics working group
- Working group on metallurgy and technical physics in engineering
- Construction operations working group
A total of eight members of staff are involved in research, teaching and projects in order to develop sustainable, innovative and forward-looking solutions for the civil engineering sector.

About our working group
Brief presentation of the working group in quotation form

The Steel Construction and Steel Composite Construction working group focuses on the development of sustainable construction and erection methods as well as issues relating to structural monitoring.

The Metals Science and Engineering Physics group investigates multiphysical processes, the formation and development of EMI spectra and wave propagation in metallic structures.

The Construction Operations working group develops concepts for managing building information over the entire life cycle (BIM).
Our research profile
Description of the research focus areas and list of focus areas
At the Chair of Steel Construction and Composite Steel Construction, we are dedicated to interdisciplinary research into future-oriented solutions for the planning, erection, maintenance and monitoring of structures in steel construction and composite steel construction. Our work combines engineering, material and physical perspectives and combines basic research with application-oriented development.
The main areas of research are closely interlinked: issues from structural engineering, structural monitoring, materials technology and technical physics are intertwined, enabling us to develop integrative and holistic solutions along the entire life cycle of structures.
An essential part of our work is the close and interdisciplinary cooperation with other research groups - both within the School of Science and Technology at the University of Siegen and beyond. We cooperate across faculties with colleagues from different disciplines and at the same time maintain a strong network with partners from science and industry. The exchange with companies, engineering offices and research institutes enables us to address current practical challenges and develop innovative solutions with high social and economic relevance.
