The Question of Time in the Film-Photonovel

We invite you to the hybrid lecture 'The Question of Time in Film-Photonovel' by Prof. Dr. Jan Baetens, which will be held in person at the University of Siegen and online via Webex. Dr. Baetens is a Belgian critic, editor, poet, and essayist, widely known in comics research for his foundational works on visual narratives, such as The Graphic Novel (2014) and The Film Photonovel. A Cultural History of Forgotten Adaptations (2019). Dr. Baetens also contributed to the theory of time in graphic narratives, writing on the relation of closure and gutter in comics, as well as the questions of reading and narrative time. By bringing together these two research topics – photonovels and time – the upcoming lecture offers a space to discuss how we think about both.
