Classism in Schools – Critiquing Classism as a Future Skill for Teachers
Speaker: Francis Seeck, Nuremberg University of Applied Sciences
Classism refers to discrimination based on social background or social status and also shapes everyday life in schools. This presentation examines how classism manifests itself in the education system, the role that social inequalities and pedagogical assumptions play in this process, and how teachers themselves may unconsciously contribute to the reproduction of social inequality. The focus is on the question of how a pedagogical approach critical of classism can be developed and why critiquing classism is an important future skill for teachers.
