A vibrant and open culture of feedback has a significant impact on student learning (see Hattie). Feedback encompasses more than just the comments instructors provide to their students regarding a specific piece of student work. Equally important is the feedback that students provide to their instructors—for example, regarding the design of courses and learning processes.
In this context, feedback is understood as a comprehensive and reciprocal communication process in which instructors and students jointly discuss and negotiate various aspects of teaching and learning. Feedback is thus a valuable tool for strengthening the autonomy and personal responsibility of all participants in the teaching-learning process.
In this workshop, we will explore the importance of feedback as well as its various dimensions and levels. In addition, we will try out different feedback methods and discuss their potential applications. Finally, we will identify factors that help build and sustainably establish an open and reciprocal feedback culture.
Learning Objectives
By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to …
- explain the importance of feedback for student learning and for the development of their own teaching style.
- identify ways to effectively integrate feedback phases into courses and implement them using various teaching methods.
- identify and explainfactors that contribute to an open feedback culture and apply them in their own teaching.
