Teaching at a university can be inspiring, dynamic, and varied—but sometimes it can also be chaotic. As instructors, we face the challenge of dealing with diverse and difficult teaching situations.

In this workshop, we’ll reflect on our own role as instructors in various situations. We’ll also explore how difficult it can be to see things from the students’ perspective. Among other things, we’ll examine the following questions: How do students learn best? And what does that mean for their motivation to learn?

We will define our own role as instructors and explore the concept of constructive alignment. We will apply this concept to our specific teaching practices to motivate students and support them in successfully passing exams.

Other topics include the formulation of learning objectives and learning outcomes, as well as aspects of communication in the teaching-learning context that are crucial for successful collaboration in seminars and lectures.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to…

  • identify and describe the fundamentals of teaching and learning at universities.
  • design their own teaching to be competency-based and align it with the principle of constructive alignment.
  • motivate students and encourage them to learn using various techniques.
