With its functional, sufficient floor plans, New Frankfurt was a field of experimentation for modernism. As part of the New Neues Frankfurt project, architecture students from the University of Siegen are working in groups to develop a planning game that allows residents of the estate and visitors to the exhibition to configure individual floor plans from a variety of rooms in the New Frankfurt.

The focus is on the modularity of the rooms, so that the historical room modules can be combined with each other as desired. Selected designs will be exhibited in May as part of the New Neues Frankfurt exhibition at mayhaus and the winning project will be chosen. The realization of the winning design will be funded and presented during the Open - Design Week and made available to visitors to the exhibition for participation.

New Neues Frankfurt: Architekturstudierende entwickeln interaktives Planspiel

In the "Transformation and Design" course, architecture students from the University of Siegen, under the supervision of Prof. Astrid Wuttke, Katharina Specht and Rosa Hanig, have examined the housing models and associated issues of the New Frankfurt in the Building Design seminar in the Master's degree program and translated them into an interactive, contemporary mediation format.
The result is concept ideas and prototypes for a simulation game that enables exhibition visitors to think about housing-related topics in a playful way and engage in conversation with each other. Selected designs can be seen on the first floor of the mayhaus.
A further development of the prototypes will be presented at the mayhaus as part of the Open - Design Week Frankfurt RheinMain. The focus will be on playability and the issues addressed, as well as on an appealing design.
