Military service or compulsory military service? How will Germany defend itself better in future?

Germany has had a "new military service" since January 2026. Although compulsory military service has not been reactivated, it can be easily reinstated through the back door if necessary. What does this mean in concrete terms for young people in a world that seems to be coming apart at the seams? Could it be that Bundeswehr soldiers will have to defend European values in the foreseeable future, for example as part of a 'peacekeeping force' in Ukraine?
