Application and aptitude test
The application portal for the winter semester normally opens on June 1. To participate in the selection process, an application is required by July 15
The application is made via the unisono portal. To apply, please create an applicant account in the first step here
an applicant account. Students will receive their access data for the application portal at the e-mail address provided during the registration process. In the second step, you will find the MSc Psychology with a focus on Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy under "Online Application", for which you can then apply. Certificates can be submitted to the Registrar's Office by 30.09 (cut-off deadline).
Since winter semester 23/24, the University of Siegen also takes into account the result of a local aptitude test when you apply. All details can be found here.
Admission requirements
Admission is open to anyone who
a) have obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology (180 LP) from a German or foreign university or an equivalent German or foreign degree which has been found to meet the professional requirements, or an equivalent German or foreign degree whose learning outcomes meet the requirements of the PsychThG and the PsychThApprO in terms of content, with an overall grade of "good" (2.5) or better, or
b) has achieved at least 144 credit points at the time of application (overall grade of "good" (2.5) or better). Furthermore, the average grade must be noted on the application documents. Proof of the average grade (or the transcript of records) must not be older than 3 months at the time of application.
Applicants who are applying on the basis of a Bachelor's degree that has not yet been completed are provisionally admitted to the course and can submit proof of the first professionally qualifying degree for the winter semester by 30 September. Provisional admission expires if the degree certificate (usually the Bachelor's certificate or equivalent) is not submitted to the Registrar's Office by this date.
And:
c) can provide evidence of competencies in psychological modules amounting to at least 120 LP, which must be proven in the following areas:
- Practical professional assignments (at least 19 LP), which were completed in a work-related internship (at least 13 LP) and an empirical-scientific (experimental-psychological) internship (at least 6 LP),
- Module(s) with examination performance in statistics or psychological methodology (at least 15 CP),
- Module(s) with examination in Psychological Diagnostics (at least 12 CP),
- Modules (at least 25 CP in total) in the following basic psychological subjects: General Psychology, Biological Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Differential or Personality Psychology, Social Psychology,
- Module/s with examination performance in clinical psychology and psychotherapy, incl. disorder theory (at least 8 CP), procedural theory (at least 8 CP), preventive/rehabilitative concepts (at least 2 CP), and professional ethics (at least 2 CP),
- Module(s) on the basics of applied pedagogy (min. 4 CP), medicine (min. 4 CP), pharmacology (min. 2 CP).
And:
d) has written an empirical Bachelor's thesis.
Selection procedure
Admission to the Master's degree program is restricted. The selection procedure is a written application procedure.
The following criteria are taken into account in the selection process
a) average grade of the first professionally qualifying degree (normally the Bachelor's degree in Psychology) or a comparable degree and
b) a weighted number of credit points earned in the basic psychology modules (General Psychology I, General Psychology II, Biological Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Differential Psychology or Personality Psychology, Social Psychology) during the Bachelor's degree course.
From the winter semester 2023/24, the result of a local aptitude test will be taken into account when applying.
From winter semester 23/24, the University of Siegen may offer a local aptitude test every year, which will also be taken into account in the application process. This is not the Germany-wide aptitude test for the Bachelor of Psychology. Further details can be found in the regulations amending the statutes for the selection procedure for the Master's degree in Psychology.
45% of the test result is added to the overall score to determine the ranking order, 55% is calculated from the total points (grade points according to Annex 1 + credit weighting points according to Annex 2). Due to the additive nature of the test, participation can only improve the result. The test requires a binding registration and participation is by invitation only. Participation in the test is not linked to the right to a study place and does not include the examination of the special requirements for admission to the Master's program.

General ability to study:
- 25 questions on numerical reasoning
- 30 questions on figural reasoning
Subject-specific knowledge of individual content areas:
- 15 questions on the content areas of social psychology, developmental psychology, general psychology, differential psychology
- 15 questions on psychological research methods
- 10 questions on statistics
- 10 questions on psychological diagnostics
