Student financing |Study financing

Studying always costs a lot of money. In addition to the semester fees, many students also have to cover their rent and living costs. Below we present some financing options.

Welcome money

Dear fellow students,

welcome to Siegen.
As you have probably heard, you can have part of the mobility fee refunded after your first registration in Siegen, currently 176.40€. To do this, you must come to our office in person during our opening hours
to apply for the refund. You will need:

-Your USiCard or a current certificate of enrollment

-Your registration certificate

-A working German IBAN number

BAföG

If parents are not able to support you financially, you can apply for BAföG at the Studierendenwerk of the University of Siegen. This is available from the Studierendenwerk and from us at the AStA office. Whether you can receive BAföG or not must always be checked individually. The best way to find out is to contact the BAföG office. You are also welcome to come to our AStA office.

Germany Scholarship

Students at the University of Siegen have until October 16 to apply for one of around 90 Deutschlandstipendium scholarships. The scholarships are generally open to all disciplines - however, some are awarded preferentially to students of certain disciplines. Any student at the University of Siegen studying for a Bachelor's or Master's degree can apply.

Daka loan (interest-free)

In order to receive a Daka loan, you must be enrolled at a university in North Rhine-Westphalia, pay a social contribution to the local student union and be dependent on financial aid to secure your living expenses. You must also be able to provide a guarantor. Age and number of semesters play a subordinate role in the granting of loans. There is no legal entitlement to the granting of a loan.
Please note: Daka's annual budget is limited, which means that at times not all applications can be processed in the desired amount.

BVA education loan

The Federal Government offers students at an advanced stage of their studies the opportunity to take out a low-interest loan in accordance with the funding regulations of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The aim of the educational loan is to secure and accelerate education or to finance extraordinary expenses not covered by the BAföG in order to shorten education or to avoid dropping out of education due to a lack of funds. Funding is provided regardless of the student's income/assets or the income/assets of their parents

Family scholarship

The family scholarship is a classic scholarship designed to help students with family responsibilities in financially difficult situations to complete their studies. Applications can now be submitted for two deadlines per year. For the summer semester by March 1 of each year, for the winter semester by September 1 of each year. Further information on the scholarship can be obtained from the Family Service Office or on the University of Siegen website.

Family emergency fund

The Family Emergency Aid Fund is a one-off financial support for students with family responsibilities in acute emergencies and is intended to help prevent students from dropping out of university. Further information on the emergency fund is available from the Family Service Office or on the University of Siegen website.

Emergency aid for students of the Catholic University Community

Emergency aid can be applied for by all students at the University of Siegen. However, it is only a one-off payment and can be applied for a maximum of three times during the entire course of study. You can find more information about this student financing on the KHG website.
