Development of substructures made of hot-dip galvanized steel sheets for ventilated curtain walls

To achieve national and global climate protection goals and meet the resulting requirements for the energy transition, the use of photovoltaics (PV) is to be sustainably expanded. To achieve this, a theoretical area of 31 square meters per inhabitant is required in Germany, which corresponds to a facade and roof area of 18,000 square kilometers in the existing building stock. However, this potential is not yet being fully realized, as the market for building-integrated photovoltaics is developing only to a limited extent.

One reason is the complicated and time-consuming building code approval procedures for the use of solar modules on facade and roof surfaces. The goal of the research project is therefore to develop standardized testing procedures and technical guidelines, as well as standardized solutions for their integration. The focus is on in-roof constructions and curtain-wall, rear-ventilated facades as alternatives to external thermal insulation composite systems (ETICS) in order to make a significant contribution to the energy transition.
