The Department of Structural Engineering at the University of Siegen, in collaboration with Glas Schneider GmbH & Co. KG of Hachenburg, is developing an innovative laminated safety glass with interlayers of higher stiffness, in order to account for the advantages of shear bonding between the individual glass panes when designing glazing as both single-pane and multi-pane insulating glass.
Compared to conventional interlayers of medium stiffness, materials with higher stiffness allow for thinner nominal glazing thicknesses. This can result in comparatively slender cross-sections, enabling adaptation to individual requirements and the conservation of resources.
To this end, the material properties of interlayers at temperatures relevant to construction are to be comprehensively determined as the basis for the numerical calculation model and incorporated into the development of suitable glazing assemblies. In addition to defining process parameters, it is also necessary to develop a process chain for further processing into multi-pane insulating glass.
