The Chair of Structural Engineering, in collaboration with Glas Schneider GmbH & Co. KG of Hachenburg, is developing an innovative quality-control method for the manufacture of laminated safety glass as the basis for ensuring the reliability of self-monitoring and, consequently, the economic efficiency of the production process.
The restructuring of building regulations through the Model Administrative Regulation on Technical Building Provisions requires new methods for future quality assurance. The current tests apply only to polyvinyl butyral interlayers and do not provide real-time results that can be applied to the final product.
Therefore, plans are in place to adapt existing methods to other interlayer materials and to develop a novel non-destructive testing method. To this end, the potential application of technological methods from related fields of manufacturing engineering is being investigated, even though no specific experience with glass in the construction industry has been available to date.
