Studying on Another Planet – People with Autism at the University of Siegen

Autism – Perceptual Differences, High-Functioning Autism – Disability or Variation from the Norm? What invisible barriers exist in higher education, and what are the wishes of those affected? All these aspects will be addressed in the presentation.

International Sign Everywhere: On the Internationalization of Education and the International Mobility of Deaf Students

Deaf students face numerous communication challenges, particularly when communicating with deaf people of other nationalities, as there is no common sign language. The Erasmus+ project InSign (Advancing Inclusive Education through International Sign) promotes the internationalization of education and the international mobility of deaf students by utilizing International Sign as an effective communication channel between deaf and hearing people and by implementing it in higher education.

Professional Success Despite – or Because of – Crohn’s Disease?! A Diversity-Reflective Insight into My Professional Journey with a Severe Chronic Illness

This presentation is a personal account of the speaker’s experiences. It provides insight into how the speaker has coped with her chronic illness throughout her professional career. In addition to the everyday challenges and difficulties of (working) life with Crohn’s disease, the presentation will focus in particular on how chronic illness can also be viewed as a personal resource. Following the presentation, there will be ample time for questions and discussion.

Studying with a Health Condition? – So What? Support Options from the Inclusive University of Siegen Service Office

People with disabilities and/or chronic illnesses face certain hurdles and problems not only in everyday life but also when they begin their studies. This prevents many from pursuing a degree at all. However, the Inclusive University of Siegen Service Office offers a wide range of assistance and support options to ensure that students can succeed in their studies despite health-related challenges. This presentation will introduce the various support options – such as accommodations, student inclusion tutors, graduation support, and more – and clear up common misconceptions. Afterward, there will be plenty of time for questions, suggestions, and discussion.
