Welcome to the Chair of Solid Mechanics
The Chair of Solid Mechanics investigates the mechanical behavior of modern materials - from classical metals and polymers to complex functional materials. Our focus is on the development of mechanical models and numerical methods to realistically describe material deformation, damage and failure. By combining theory, simulation and experimental validation, we create reliable foundations for applications in mechanical engineering, energy technology, lightweight construction and many other engineering fields.
We see ourselves as basic research with a view to industrial practice: scientifically sound, technically clean and with clear relevance to real challenges.
