Questions and answers on the XIMS shutdown

With the gradual shutdown of the CMS XIMS and the switch to Drupal, numerous organizational and technical questions arise. On this page you will find answers to frequently asked questions about deadlines, editing options, URL redirects, data backup and the migration of existing content. The FAQ will be continuously supplemented and updated.

From 11.05.2026, XIMS login and therefore processing will no longer be possible.

XIMS will be completely and finally shut down on 11.11.2026. This means that ALL content will no longer be accessible. However, you can export your content before then (see below).

No. Changes or edits are excluded as of 11.05.26. Mandatory changes due to (data protection) legal requirements or legal orders can be made by the administrators. Please contact the relevant department. After the department has checked, a change instruction will be sent to the ZIMT.

You can download content directly from XIMS until 11.05.26. After 11.05.26, you can download the published content via "website copy tools" and save it locally on your device. There are some (free) software tools for this, e.g. HTTrack: https://www.httrack.com/

The URL in Drupal depends on your organizational unit and the content type of your content. Third-level domains will no longer exist for websites after the changeover. Content in Drupal may be accessible under the same URL. However, this depends on which URL your content previously had in XIMS.

The CMS Drupal is intended for the web representation of organizational units of the University of Siegen.
An alternative service is also available for project websites, e.g. for cooperation projects (with partners).
Migrations to websites not provided by the USI are not supported.

You can view your content from XIMS until the shutdown on 11.11.26 and download it via your browser to create new content in Drupal.
