Study program

German Studies Seminar

The University of Siegen offers various opportunities to study German studies and to engage with language and literature.

The courses are designed to be both research- and practice-oriented. We attach great importance to enabling students to hone their individual study profile.

Various study models make it possible to combine individual courses as well as interdisciplinary links with other subject areas. German studies, for example, is always closely linked to media studies.

At the University of Siegen, students can study all teaching subjects as well as Bachelor's and Master's degree courses in literature, cultural studies or linguistics in which German Studies is involved.

Further information on the individual degree courses and teaching methods can also be found on the website of the Center for Teacher Training and Educational Research
and on the pages of the Central Student Advisory Service
of Faculty I.

Teacher training program

The Siegen teacher training program in German Studies prepares students for the responsible profession of teacher with a comprehensive range of courses in both subject-specific and didactic/pedagogical terms. The German Studies program in Siegen not only trains secondary school teachers, but also teachers for primary schools, secondary modern schools, intermediate secondary schools and vocational colleges.

The German Studies course provides basic knowledge of the history of language and literature, which is deepened on the basis of current research questions. This enables students to independently explore areas of research and take a position. The didactic perspective is taught in the corresponding courses depending on the type of school. Students are thus prepared for the specific requirements of the practical phase, in which they develop their own study projects and work on research questions.
