MA 10 - Specialization in Glass Construction
Winter Semester
The MA 10 module—Advanced Topics | Glass Construction—covers the types of glass used in construction and the various methods of glass processing. The surfaces and structural properties of glass products are discussed and evaluated. Other key topics include the fundamentals of material-appropriate design using glass—a brittle building material—as well as joining and connecting methods in structural glass construction. Typical damage patterns are demonstrated and analyzed to highlight problem areas in glass construction and help prevent errors. For the design of load-bearing glass components, the current technical building codes of DIN 18008 are presented, and building code requirements and any necessary component testing are explained in detail. Calculational verifications for vertical and horizontal glazing, glazing that can be stepped on or walked on, and fall-protection glazing are demonstrated and explained step by step through the preparation of verifiable calculations.
