People with dementia have a right to self-determination. But determining whether they are capable of giving consent can be a challenge. Dr. Matthé Scholten from Ruhr-Universität Bochum and Prof. Dr. Julia Haberstroh from the University of Siegen, together with a team of authors, have compiled detailed recommendations with practical tips to support clinicians in their day-to-day work. In their book "Entscheidungsassistenz und Einwilligungsfähigkeit bei Demenz", they describe in detail the criteria and framework conditions that can be used to assess the capacity of people with dementia to give consent and provide assistance for the process. The book was published in May 2024 by Kohlhammer-Verlag.
