"BioValCat" symposium 2026
ERC Symposium "BioValCat" at the University of Hamburg
From February 25 to 26, 2026, a scientific symposium was held in the Department of Chemistry at Universität Hamburg to mark the halfway point of the ERC Consolidator Grant project "BioValCat". Led by the research group of Prof. Dr. Jakob Albert, the thematic focus was on current advances in polyoxometalate-catalyzed processes for value creation from biomass. The event provided a platform for leading scientists to present the latest research results, discuss trends in sustainable chemistry, deepen existing collaborations and initiate new initiatives.
Junior Professor Dr. Anna Katharina Beine from the Chair of Energy Process Engineering at the University of Siegen enriched the symposium with a keynote lecture. In her lecture, she presented strategies for immobilizing polyoxometalates with the aim of using them as recyclable catalysts in continuous processes. She also presented the application of the synthesized materials in selected reactions of biomass value creation as well as results on their characterization.
