June 12, 2026 – As part of this year’s bridge-building field trip, participants toured the construction site for the replacement of the Landeskroner Weiher viaduct on the A45 near Wilnsdorf, hosted by Autobahn GmbH. The field trip was led by Mr. Önder Sahin and Ms. Jennifer Johannsen. On site, participants gained a comprehensive insight into the planning, construction, and current status of the project.

The existing bridge, completed in 1967, is being replaced by two new bridge sections. The original structure was 376 m long; the new bridge sections will be approximately 385 m long in the direction of Dortmund and 393 m long in the direction of Frankfurt. The new bridge is being constructed as a prestressed concrete bridge using the incremental launching method. The first bridge section has already been completed and opened to traffic. Currently, the superstructure of the second bridge section is being fabricated in sections in the launching pit and will subsequently be slid into its final position.

The first photo shows the last reinforcement cage in the segmental formwork. Particularly visible is the heavily reinforced cantilever at the end of the superstructure, which will later serve to anchor the external tendons. In the next step, the reinforcement cage is slid onto the formwork (middle photo) and concreted to the already completed superstructure section. The internal tendons with post-tensioning are already ready for threading and installation. The last photo shows the superstructure, as concreted up to that point, from the inside. The external tendons have not yet been installed here; they will later be routed through the box girder and guided through the openings in the cantilevers.
