COIL with UNAM: "El mundial de Futbol en el imaginario de México y Alemania: tensiones, narrativas y discursos"

How is Mexico portrayed and what role does the construction of identity play there in the context of the World Cup?

With this question and Siggi in my luggage, I started my trip to UNAM in Mexico. There I was a guest in the seminar "Política Pública" with Prof. Dr. Sandra López Varela. In two seminar sessions, we dealt with soccer and the World Cup in Mexico as a global event, which we also worked on as a cultural mediation format.

The focus was on the image of the country, which is mainly characterized by violence and corruption in the external perception and media coverage. This was to be reshaped through our own narratives and images in order to tap into the productive potential of new technologies such as generative AI in co-production.

More specifically, the aim was to develop their own World Cup songs, driven by their disappointment with the official World Cup song "Lighter" and the soulless commercialization and associated cultural alienation of soccer. This was intended to bring other images, narratives and sounds into play for the World Cup in Mexico.

The prototypes of this first encounter can be played in the SUNO playlist "Nuestro Mundial"
can be played.

The music videos will later be published on the YouTube channel Siggi Records Music, starting with my own sample video "México en la piel":
