Tanja Sanchez …

On June 26, 2025, the Faculty III - Business Administration, Information Systems and Business Law of the University of Siegen bid farewell to 478 graduates from the summer semester 2024 and the winter semester 2024/25. Together with their families and accompanying persons, they were honored for their achievements in the festive setting of the Apollo Theater.

In his welcoming address, the Dean of Faculty III, Prof. Dr. Marc Hassenzahl, emphasized how important it is to consciously celebrate successes. Together with Prof. Dr. Giuseppe Strina, Vice Dean for Teaching and Regional Cooperation, he routinely and humorously hosted the event.

Mayor Steffen Mues also offered his congratulations and emphasized the importance of the university for the region, combined with the wish that many graduates will remain loyal to the Siegen-Wittgenstein district in their careers.

An inspiring highlight of the afternoon was the keynote speech by Dr. Antonia Barten, alumna of Faculty III, who completed both her studies and her doctorate at the University of Siegen. Under the title "Change needs makers - It's up to you to shape the future!", she encouraged people to take responsibility and actively shape change.

Dr. Barten represents an impressive path between science, business and culture: after holding positions in teaching and as Managing Director of the faculty's Business School, she is now Head of International Marketing at Achenbach Buschhütten and is a member of the board of the Apollo Theatre.

The event was accompanied by the musician Esther S. Klever on the saxophone, which emphasized the festive character of the afternoon.

A special moment was the presentation of the Artur Woll Prize, which was awarded to the best graduates of the faculty's subjects for their outstanding achievements. The prizes, each worth 500 euros, are awarded by the Verein zur Förderung der Fakultät III - Wirtschaftswissenschaften, Wirtschaftsinformatik und Wirtschaftsrecht der Universität Siegen e.V. and are named after Artur Woll, the founding rector of the University of Siegen. Mr. Gerd Dilling, Diplom-Kaufmann, first chairman of the association, presented the certificates on behalf of the association to

  • Ronja Bundrock (German and European Business Law, LL.M.)
  • Sebastian Erstling (Plural Economics; M.Sc.)
  • Lisa Marie Dilling (Controlling & Risk Management, M.Sc.)
  • Eron Ahmeti (German and European Business Law, LL.B.)
  • Elise Plate (Business Informatics, B.Sc.)
  • Nico Wurm (Business Administration, B.Sc.)

Unfortunately, the prizewinners Laerto Metko (Economics, B.Sc.) and Lukas Wilzek (Economic Policy, M.Sc.) as well as the prizewinner Ramona Plogmann (Human Computer Interaction, M.Sc.) were unable to attend this year.

In an exciting tandem interview, two alumni of the University of Siegen spoke about their experiences in the field of entrepreneurship: Karin Horchler, media economist and start-up coach at the Entrepreneurship Center, and Torsten Schuh, Managing Director of Hans Ranke GmbH and known from "Die Höhle der Löwen". While Karin Horchler provided insights into supporting young start-ups, Thorsten Schuh described his journey from the idea to successfully founding a company. Both emphasized the central role of the university and its network in paving the way for entrepreneurial success.

Faculty III congratulates all graduates on the successful completion of their studies and wishes them all the best for the future. Because as the keynote speech so aptly put it: "Change needs makers" - and that's exactly what you are.
