New Executive Departments bundles safety and health protection
The Occupational Health and Safety Department and safety-relevant areas of the Infrastructural Facility Management and Safety Department are organizationally anchored in the new "Occupational Health and Safety, Health Protection and Campus Safety" Executive Department. The Executive Departments is located directly within the university management and underlines the growing importance of the topic for the entire university.
The new structure combines two central areas: occupational health and safety and campus safety. While occupational health and safety will continue to deal with topics such as prevention, advice and legal requirements, campus security will include organization and administration, threat management and porter services. The respective departments will continue to exist with their managers and teams, but will work more closely together within the Executive Departments in future.
It is important for employees and students that the organizational realignment does not involve any spatial changes. All contact persons will continue to be available under the familiar contact details. The existing service and support offerings will remain unchanged.
The aim of the reorganization is to pool expertise, make processes more efficient and increase the ability to respond to security-related issues. At the same time, synergies between prevention and operational security are to be better utilized. This will also create space for new tasks: The range of training and further education courses on offer is to be continuously expanded, as is the deepening of cross-university networking.
In addition to this structural development, the University of Siegen has logically joined the NRW-wide network "#sicher im Dienst". In doing so, it is further expanding its commitment to safe working and study conditions and becoming part of a network of over 850 organizations in North Rhine-Westphalia.
The "#sicher im Dienst" initiative is part of the state strategy "More protection and security for employees in the public sector". The aim is to consistently counter violence, threats and disrespect in everyday working life. Members are given access to practical prevention measures, exchange formats and tried-and-tested examples of best practice.
"Bringing together the existing expertise and services in an Executive Departments is an important signal that safety and health are of great importance at our university. The now visible close connection of these diverse areas with the large NRW network and the expert knowledge of our colleagues also opens up a wide range of opportunities for further development. I would like to thank everyone involved for the joint concept and trusting cooperation," says Iris Litty, Chancellor of the University of Siegen.
