Frieder & Henner, Volume 5
The State School of Civil Engineering in Siegen

Eva von Engelberg-Dočkal, Petra Lohmann (eds.)
Siegen 2026

This volume is dedicated to the State School of Civil Engineering in Siegen as one of the first educational buildings on Haardter Berg. Built between 1965 and 1967 by architects Friedrich Wilhelm Bertram and Elmar Lang (Aachen), winners of the 1962 competition, it forms the core of today’s Paul-Bonatz-Straße campus.

The introduction examines the school building within the context of the planned development of Haardter Berg, with its unique combination of educational facilities and residential areas. In his article, Thomas Schiffmann uses numerous historical photographs to reconstruct the original appearance of the engineering school and, for the first time, highlights the design qualities of its architecture and interior design.

The publication is available in print through bookstores and digitally via the University of Siegen’s Opus server.
