New Publication on the Topic of Sonic Citizenship
New publication by Evelyn Buyken on the topic of Sonic Citizenship
At the heart of this paper is a method for designing concerts in public spaces, developed as an attuning method that emerges from the intersection of the concepts of sonic citizenship and artistic citizenship. The article examines how this method addresses central questions in both discourses and demonstrates how the exchange of practices across these fields can foster a new way of listening to places and communities. Drawing on a student’s concert project, the article demonstrates how the design of concerts can serve as laboratories for listening, thereby enhancing the socially transformative power of communities. With a strong focus on practical implementation, this article develops a concrete method for practicing sonic citizenship through the lens of classical performances.
