Psychotherapeutic university outpatient clinic expands its services
Psychotherapy for children and adolescents
The psychotherapeutic outpatient clinic at the University of Siegen is expanding its services from March. Children and adolescents can then also receive therapeutic treatment.
From next month, the psychotherapeutic outpatient clinic at the University of Siegen will also be offering outpatient therapy for children and adolescents from kindergarten age to 21. All psychological disorders and problems are treated - from severe anxiety, sadness and loneliness to eating disorders, sleep problems or concentration difficulties and restlessness. The new service is made possible by a newly employed child and adolescent psychotherapist with many years of professional experience. Interested parties can now make appointments via the university outpatient clinic's telephone consultation hours.
"We are delighted to be able to offer therapy to children and adolescents in future. Our university outpatient clinic now covers the entire lifespan, from very young children to adults," says the head of the outpatient clinic, Prof. Dr. Tim Klucken. He sees the service as a supplement to existing child and adolescent psychotherapy options in the region: "With one therapist, it is of course a comparatively small service. However, we are happy to be able to offer this additional support, especially at the current time when many children and young people are under a lot of stress due to the coronavirus pandemic."
In addition to behavioral therapy, the Psychotherapeutic University Outpatient Clinic also offers consultation appointments for diagnostics. At the same time, the university outpatient clinic is characterized by a close link between psychotherapy and scientific research. The aim is the continuous evaluation and further development of psychotherapeutic services. In addition, studies are regularly carried out on specific psychological issues such as anxiety disorders or addictions.
Appointments for an initial consultation are made via the telephone consultation hours. Young people aged 15 and over can also make an appointment on their own without asking their parents or guardians for permission. The therapist is bound to confidentiality and anonymity is guaranteed. After the initial consultation, two to four trial sessions take place, after which a decision is made on whether to apply for long-term therapy. The costs for consultations, diagnostics and psychotherapy are fully covered by statutory health insurance.
